You don't need a full network management suite
Auvik is excellent multi-vendor network monitoring with config backup as a secondary feature. If you manage Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, and Meraki, Auvik makes sense. If your fleet is Meraki, you are paying for capabilities you don't use. NET Backup Vault does one thing: Meraki config backup and restore. It does it deeper (granular feature-level restore, atomic rollback) and at a fraction of the cost.
Your script works. Until it doesn't.
We respect the effort. You wrote a Python script using the Meraki Dashboard API, it backs up configs, maybe it even restores some of them. But it covers about 75% of config types. It has no UI for your team. No version control. No rollback if a restore fails halfway. And when you leave or the API changes, nobody maintains it. NET Backup Vault is what you would build if you had six more months and no other responsibilities.
Restoring a whole network to fix one firewall rule
Meraki's built-in org clone copies everything or nothing. You cannot restore just the firewall rules, just the VLANs, or just one SSID. It is the equivalent of reformatting a hard drive to delete one file. For disaster recovery of an entire network, it works. For the daily reality of "someone changed a firewall rule and broke VoIP," it is useless.
The most expensive option
Most MSPs operate without Meraki config backup. It works until it doesn't. The cost is invisible until a junior technician pushes a bad change at 9 PM on a Friday, or a Meraki device fails and arrives blank. Then the cost is four hours of manual reconstruction, a missed SLA, and a client questioning whether you actually manage their network.
